Me, Jack and Maggie (one of my two nephews and my niece).
Hey! I’m Tom. I am a 27 year old guy from a town called Rugby in the UK. These days I am a freelance writer and a professional blogger. I make a living with my laptop and can work from anywhere in the world (as long as there is a power supply and an internet connection).
I have been published on Lifehacker, interviewed by FreelanceSwitch and named a ProBlogger “Blogger to Watch.” In less than two years I have written nearly 1,000 blog posts for tens of blogs.
I have worked from my home in Rugby, my sister’s home in Texas, a condo in Colorado, a hotel room in Serbia, a cruise ship in the Atlantic and many other places. I am completely free from the constraints of a 9-to-5 job and live life on my own terms.
But it hasn’t always been like this. Not for a long at all in fact – my life was completely different just a few months ago.
I quit a lucrative and secure job at the end of 2011 to pursue a dream, which was to run my own successful business. I didn’t want someone else dictating how I should spend the majority of each working day — I wanted the freedom to do what I wanted in order to further myself.
It turns out that my rather bold decision to quit my job was a very good one as I am now producing a full-time income while only working part-time hours. That means I now have loads of time to work on all sorts of exciting projects, which I share here on Leaving Work Behind.

About Leaving Work Behind
My aim with this blog is to help as many people as I can to realize their own dreams of quitting their jobs and building their own online businesses.
I do this by sharing, in detail, my own stories and experiences. If I have succeeded in something, you can learn about it here. If I have failed, you can read about that too. I am completely transparent in sharing everything relating to my online businesses.
I firmly believe that there is no reason why almost anyone can’t follow the same path as me. I am sure that you can match or exceed my achievements and this blog is my way of teaching you how to do just that.
